SoundBlaster 5.1vx activate all speaker channels Ubuntu 12.04
Today my sound card decided to stop playing sound on all 6 channels, and instead just played regular stereo (front left and right).
After some searching I found this simple fix to activate all speaker channels of a SoundBlaster 5.1vx on Ubuntu 12.04 Precise:
Open daemon.conf
# sudo nano /etc/pulse/daemon.conf
Look for this line:
;default-sample-channels = 2
And change it to this:
default-sample-channels = 6
Now reboot the computer, and your rear channels, center channel, and subwoofer should work again.
This should be all that is needed to have sound on all channels using a SoundBlaster 5.1vx on Ubuntu 12.04. The same should work for other Ubuntu Versions and Debian based distributions.
